Saturday December 31st 6:00pm-Midnight
The Pier Festival Geelong
The 2011 Pier Festival was a huge success, with over 15,000 people lining Geelong Waterfront’s event precinct to celebrate New Year's! The young and the young at heart enjoyed the stunning weather and come along to enjoy the children's rides, jumping castles and entertainment!
This year’s food court sold gorgeous gourmet food, and the twilight markets selling their wares on Steampacket Gardens attracted families.
Children’s entertainment group The Mik Maks performed on stage to an enthusiastic crowd on Steampacket Gardens. Their songs such as Grandma and Belly Buttons had kids singing, dancing & clapping their hands with delight. Again this year, Tubby The Robot has an enormous success as she strolled the boardwalk with baby robot in her pram; the balloon artist was busily sculpting amazing balloon dsigns for kids; whilst the animal petting farm delighted families with their range of chooks, lambs, chickens, baby goats & piglets.
If that’s not enough, others found hours of entertainment in the mini golf, giant slide and other kids rides located on Steampacket Gardens. It was a terrific night enjoyed by everyone who attended.
The Youth Activities Area was a hive of activity with live music and other youth orientated activities.
As the sun set, crowds gathered from all viewing locations along the waerfront to wait for the anticipated fireworks. At 9:15 the skies lit up with spectacular fireworks firing from 2 barges located on Corio Bay.
The festivities continued late into the night with the event concluding with the EMC Group Midnight Fireworks. Thanks to support from the EMC Group Geelong, The Pier Geelong, City of Greater Geelong, as well as ANZ, Tourism Geelong, Bay FM and The Geelong Times, it was a fantastic way to see 2012 in!
